Graphics from The New York Times help audiences understand complex narratives with a data-driven perspective. All of our charts, graphs, maps and illustrations are held to the same journalistic standards as our written content. 

What is an image license?

An image license is a contract that gives a licensee permissions to reuse or republish images according to the terms outlined in the agreement. Rights may include reusing images in magazines, websites or newspapers.

What is a commercial license for an image?

A commercial license for an image permits a licensee to reuse or republish images in ways that are associated with producing revenue or enhancing their overall business position. Subject to specific terms and additional considerations, such as rights of publicity, rights may include the use of images in marketing collateral such as landing pages, blogs, newsletters and whitepapers.

Where can I get graphics for commercial use?

You can work with a content licensing company, such as NYTLicensing, to get permission for a package of graphics for one-time use or as a content feed that can be incorporated into your content strategy on an ongoing basis. The content licensing company will handle all rights clearance and provide you with a copyright license that clearly outlines the usage terms. 

Rights and permissions:

Access a feed of up to three story-related graphics per day. Licensees can use licensed graphics in print publications, on websites, within apps and across various types of marketing communications. For terms regarding a specific image, check the Terms of Use section on the respective item page.
